Apple’s iPhone SE was launched in 2016. Back then, many people thought it was a step back from the standard big-screen models. Now Apple is looking to refresh it, and if rumours are to be believed, then the updates iPhone SE India will launch before the rest of the world.
Gizmodo reports —
Wistron will expand its production capacity by adding a new production line to manufacture the new iPhone SE. The company is reportedly in talks with the Karnataka government for more land. It is also looking to triple its production capacity in the next five years.
Wistron is the company that’s handling the manufacturing of iPhone SE India at Bengaluru. The manufacturing facility has already gone full swing in production, as proved by the “Assembled in India” iPhones that we are seeing in the market.
Coming back to the updated iPhone SE India —
The report is unclear as to what the changes will be in the newer model. We can safely say, however, that it will run the latest processor from Apple — the A10. We might see a slight improvement in camera and battery life.
What’s clear from the report, though, is whom Apple is targeting. It says explicitly that —
Apple is all set to target the youth of this country to expand their iOS user base in the mid-segment (below Rs. 25,000) who will eventually shift to its premium smartphones slowly.
So we have a sneak-peak into Apple’s strategy, which, so far, has been quite unclear and confusing. We hope this new strategy pays off for them. Certainly, for a price-conscious market like ours, they are on the right track.
However, to ensure that the strategy has long-term positive effects, it will have to be supplemented with other “Apple ecosystem” benefits — such as the availability of all premium features, and better service, at par with their international standards.
