Two Apple Suppliers in India to Get Manufacturing Incentives

    Spread the word

Foxconn and Wistron are two Apple suppliers in India slated to receive manufacturing incentives. The government’s production-linked incentive scheme provides companies that manufacture tablets and laptops with a reimbursement of a cashback of 1%-4% of additional sales for four years.

The two companies qualified for the PLI scheme for boosting production in India. Currently, Foxconn in Chennai and Wistron in Bangalore produce iPhones. Thanks to the Indian government’s incentives on manufacturing tablets and laptops, it will be much easier for Apple to manufacture the iPad in our country.

    Beginning iPhone Production in India

Both the Apple suppliers, Foxconn and Wistron, have started manufacturing iPhones in India. Right now, they manufacture iPhone SE 2020, iPhone 7, iPhone XR, and iPhone 11 locally. Apple also seems to be ramping up their supply chain in India to manufacture the iPhone 12 via Wistron.

The pandemic has hit the manufacturing industry hard, leading to a slowdown. Still, we expect Apple to soon begin iPad production in India, and this latest PLI scheme may be fruitful for the Cupertino company.

We’ve all been noticing how Apple’s slowly reducing its dependence on China while increasing production here in India. We hope to see Apple suppliers in India make more products like the Apple Watch, AirPods, and MacBooks. Which Apple products would you like to see with an ‘Assembled in India’ tag? Let us know in the comments.
