Guess What? Samsung Copies Apple Again

The relationship between Apple and Samsung is like that of two teenage siblings. They fight, they make-up, the get jealous of each other’s new toys, and they are always trying to bad mouth each other.

All these shenanigans usually cause a lot of trouble, and since it’s the real world, the trouble is usually legal in nature, with repercussions running into millions of dollars in damages paid.

This time (like many times before), it’s Samsung that’s on the receiving end. Why? Because Samsung has copied Apple’s very famous “Shot on an iPhone” ad series.

To showcase the superior camera quality of their flagship phones, Samsung has started a campaign that’s (quite unapologetically) called “Captured on Samsung Galaxy S7 | S7 Edge”

The ad is shot on the same lines as Apple’s ads. They show wide set, extra long shots of nature or ultra slow motion shots of some adventure sport. All shot in 4K, all edited to a catchy, invigorating tune. If you saw the two ads separately, without their respective brand watermarks, there would be no way to tell which ad was whose.

Yoni Heisler, writing for BGR, notes, “Now if this was any other company, maybe they’d get a pass, but let’s be honest: Samsung has a long and storied history of ripping off [all] things Apple, rather unapologetically at that.”
