Yes, it’s true! Just a few hours ago, Apple released a press statement announcing the launch of a special edition Red iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
Although we’d reported the possibility of this happening, everyone expected it to happen during one of the keynote events. Instead, Apple has chosen a soft launch and announced this new handset without any fanfare.
The new colour will be available from 24th March in the US. You and I here in India will have to wait till April. But hey, we aren’t complaining.
For those who’re wondering if there are any changes under the hood in this new model, the answer is no. Apart from this sizzling new colour, everything else remains the same, including the price.
But there is one caveat – the red iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are available only in 128GB and 256GB. No 32GB option 🙁
Long time followers of Apple will know that the company has had a long-standing association with (PRODUCT)RED and have released Red variations of many of its other products like the iPod and iPhone cases as a part of the campaign. However, this is the first time that iPhone has got the (PRODUCT)RED model.
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said “Since we began working with (RED) 10 years ago, our customers have made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS through the purchase of our products, from the original iPod nano (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition all the way to today’s lineup of Beats products and accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest (PRODUCT)RED offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (RED), and we can’t wait to get it into customers’ hands.”
