In preparation for iOS 11, macOS High Sierra 10.13, and watchOS 4, Apple has released iOS 10.3.3, macOS Sierra 10.12.6, and watchOS 3.2.3 patch updates respectively.
As the name patch updates suggests these are more or less filler updates. Their main purpose is to prepare your phone/mac/Watch for the next big update and make the transition as smooth as possible.
Here’s how you get each of these patch updates —
iOS 10.3.3
The easiest way to download the update is via wifi. It’ll be about 85 MB, and your phone will need to restart for the process to complete, so do it when you’re free. Connect your iPhone to a good wifi connection and do the following:
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to General > Software Update.
- Click on “Download and Install” to install the update.
macOS Sierra 10.12.6
The macOS Sierra 10.12.6 update is a bit bigger than normal. It’s 819MB, and Apple claims it “improves the security, stability, and compatibility of your Mac.”
To install the patch update on your Mac, connect your system to a fast, network reliable network, plug the mac into a power outlet, and do the following:
- Open the App Store app.
- Navigate to the Updates tab at the top of the window.
- From the list of downloads, click on the update that shows “macOS 10.12.6”
- Click “Download and Install.”
Your Mac might restart a couple of times during the process. That’s very normal.
watchOS 3.2.3
The smallest of the three updates, watchOS 3.2.3 is less than 30 MB in size and offers “improvments and bug fixes.” Connect your paired iOS device to wifi and make sure your Apple Watch has at least 50% battery. Then —
- Launch the Watch app on your iPhone.
- Go to General > Software Update.
- Click Download and Install. Your Apple watch will restart once the install is complete.
