The wait is finally over! Microsoft will be releasing a public beta version of Office for Mac in the first half of 2015. This big announcement was made by Microsoft in the last week of October on its blog. The last version of Office, which comprises Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote, was released in 2010.
Although Microsoft apologised for focusing only on developing mobile versions for the iPad and other platforms all these years, it is now also taking into account the cloud (OneDrive) for better accessibility. This is a great news for Mac users in India due to Microsoft Office’s amplified use and popularity in the country.
Microsoft plans to work on various versions of MS Office for phones (Android, iPhone and Windows Phone) and tablets (iPad and Windows) – all brought together by the cloud. In addition, the new Outlook app will be undergoing an Interface and performance makeover with better reliability, fast email download experience, real-time email delivery, and archive support for searching Exchange.
The subscribers of Office 365 will be able to access the upcoming version of Office for Mac at zero additional cost. In addition to shipping a perpetual license of Office for Mac, it will also be shipping its final version of Mac in the latter half of the year.
Let’s see how that goes for Microsoft.
