Global pandemic aside, 2020 has been an eventful year for Apple. We saw the introduction of a lot of new Apple products in 2020, including refreshed versions of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, new iPad Pro models, and an upgraded, more affordable version of the iPhone SE. And, of course, there’s more in store for the coming months.
Here’s a low down of everything we’re expecting to see from Apple in the near future:
AirTags
Apple introduced a new ‘Find My’ feature in iOS 13 that lets users track iOS and macOS devices via Bluetooth, even with no data connection. The tech giant is also supposedly planning to carry-over this feature into a Tile-like Bluetooth tag that could be attached to any item. Rumour has it that this nifty device may also feature AR support (to locate a device in a room) and a leashing feature that’ll alert you when your tracked item moves too far away from your iPhone.
Small Wireless Charging Mat
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently announced that one of the new Apple products for 2020 will be a ‘smaller wireless charging mat’. Since he did not provide any other context or information, we’re not clear if this wireless charging mat will be a scaled-down version of the discontinued AirPower or something else entirely. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman did say that Apple is still trying to find ways to make the AirPower work.
New OSes
Apple is expected to unveil the iOS and iPadOS 14 at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, which will be held online this year. Fortunately for us, a leaked version of the software revealed many juicy details about the new iOS, including a new fitness app in the works, home screen changes, new iMessage features, PencilKit updates, a new AR app, and more.
WatchOS 7 is also expected to be introduced at the conference. It may feature sleep tracking and blood oxygen monitoring in the 2020 Apple Watch models.
Apple is also slated to reveal macOS 10.16 at the conference, but we don’t know what to expect as of now.
iPhone 12
Of all the new Apple products coming soon, we’re most excited about this one. Although there are a lot of speculations about the iPhone 12’s launch date, most signs point to autumn this year. We’re expecting four high-end iPhone 12 models: a 5.4-inch model, two 6.1-inch models, and a 6.7-inch model. If rumours are to be believed, the iPhone 12 will introduce some exciting improvements, including 5G wireless chips, a laser-powered time-of-flight 3D rear camera, OLED displays, and more.
Apple Watch Series 6
Also expected to launch this autumn, the next-gen Apple Watch is rumoured to have faster performance, improved wireless transmission to enable faster Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity, and better water resistance. The 2020 Apple Watch series may also feature sleep tracking capabilities.
HomePod 2.0
While the original HomePod only made its way into the Indian market in January of 2020, two years after it was first launched, Apple is said to be already working on a smaller, cheaper version. The new version is expected to have the same general form factor but with reduced audio quality. Rumours suggest that the HomePod 2.0, if you will, is slated for release in the second half of this year.
Over-Ear Headphones
Apple is reportedly working on two versions of an over-ear Bluetooth headphone, with all-new designs and superior sound quality. The premium model will feature leather-like fabrics and the lower-end model will be fitness-focused with lighter, breathable materials. It may also include detachable ear cups, headband padding, and Active Noise Cancellation. That’s all I have for you folks today.
