Apple Leases Space for New Office at Bengaluru

Continuing with their plans to secure a solid presence for themselves in the Indian market, Apple has leased out more than 40,000 sq. ft. of space in one of the largest office complexes in Bengaluru. And this brings us one step closer to our dream of seeing another Apple office in India. Time to rejoice and celebrate!

The new facility is at Galleria, a 3 lakh sqft office space that belongs to the Standard Brick Tile Company in North Bengaluru,” reports The Economic Times, adding that “[…] it has tenants such as Comviva and Atkins. The Apple facility will be spread over two floors and house its high-end development centre.

This acquisition is the second such for Apple in India. They have already taken a huge office space (2.5 lakh sq ft) in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. That office is meant to serve as a Start-up Accelerator Apple is looking to set up in Inda.

On a recent visit to India, Tim Cook had been impressed by the technical genius he’d seen in our country. “India is home to one of the most vibrant and entrepreneurial iOS development communities in the world,” he’d declared with a smile.

Hoping to tap into that talent pool, Apple’s latest acquisition in Bangalore will be home to a high-end iOS app development centre. Not only will it cater to the growing demand for iOS apps, it will also make sure that the ecosystem grows in a way that facilitates a secure future for Apple in this subcontinent.

The new Apple office is expected to be functional by next year, i.e., late 2017.

Once operational, the facility will also cater to Swift, Apple’s native programming language. Swift has been steadily growing in popularity since its launch and is fast catching up with other programming languages.

Given Apple’s ambitious plans, it seems only natural that Hyderabad and Bengaluru be the place to set up shop. Together, they cater to nearly three-fourths of all the office space in the country, most of which is hogged by IT and allied services.

But that’s just one of the reasons why Apple prefers these two cities. Google and Microsoft have increased their footprints in these two Southern cities over the past decade. It’s only natural that Apple, too, would like to stick around them. What’s that they say about keeping your friends close, your enemies closer and your competition right next door?

    You get the drift, right?
