After launching for Android users last summer, Netflix has finally introduced the long-awaited feature for iPad and iPhone owners: Smart Downloads.
Smart Downloads allow users to automatically download episodes of their favorite TV shows and movies on their iOS devices, while simultaneously deleting the ones that have been already watched. This takes away the hassle of organising storage space on your devices.
Don’t worry; this auto-downloads only happens over Wi-Fi, so this won’t suck up all your limited cellular data. On top of it, this feature doesn’t intend to stockpile multiple episodes on your device; just one at a time. But, if you’re one of those who wants to collect several episodes of your favourite TV series, you will have to turn Smart Download off.
And just to avoid any kind of confusion, this smart downloads is only for TV series. If you download and watch Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, don’t expect the other 7 movies to get automatically loaded onto your device. A bummer, isn’t it?
Finally, iOS app users can enable Smart Downloads by tapping download icon and selecting the Smart Downloads option in the My Downloads section.
