Hey Siri, I have a question for Team Applesutra

Thank You We’ll get back to you faster that you can say iPhone 12 Pro Max!

Here’s How You Can Leave Those Redundant iMessage Groups

    Spread the word

You plan a trip with your friends and you create an iMessage group with them to make coordination between everyone easier (Because you move in a rich circle where everyone has an iPhone!). You had a fantastic four days and now you’re back to your dull daily life. But you’re still a part of a now-defunct group that you’d like to exit. How do you do that? How do you leave iMessage groups that you no longer want to be a part of?

    Here’s how …

Exiting from iMessage group on iPhone and iPad

    1. Open the Messages app on your iPhone or iPad.
    2. Select the conversation from your list.
    3. Enter the name of the group in the message window on the top.
    4. Tap on the Info icon.
    5. Select ‘Leave this Conversation’.

    Exiting iMessage group on Macs

    1. Open the Messages app on your Mac.
    2. Select the conversation from your list.
    3. Click on Details in the message window on the top.
    4. Select Leave this Conversation.

There are instances, though, where you aren’t given the option to ‘Leave this Conversation’. It’s either not available or grayed out. Why, you ask? There can be two reasons for such an unfortunate situation:

    1. The option to exit from group texts is only available on iMessage conversations. If it’s a group on SMS or MMS where one or more participant is an Android user, you have no way out.
    2. The group needs to have three or more participants for you to get the option to leave. It isn’t really a group if there are just two participants, right?

When you’re stuck with either of the two situations, you can do two things, albeit they’re temporary.

    1. You can delete the whole conversation, but you’ll only delete the conversation from your end. As soon as someone drops a text, you’ll once again be sucked into the group messages.
    2. You can mute the conversation if you can’t exit the group text. All you have to do is delete the notifications every time someone texts.

So, there you have it. We’ve given you all possible options. May you successfully leave all groups and conversations that you find boring and uninteresting.
