With macOS Sierra 10.12.4, Apple released an update for iTunes as well. iTunes 12.6 gets a few minor “plastic” tweaks, but the biggest change is perhaps how we rent movies.
Rent Once, Watch Anywhere
Until now, if you rent a movie on iPhone you could only watch it on that iPhone. Same was true for any MacBook, iMac, or an Apple TV.
Which, if you think about it, is kinda completely insane!
With iTunes 12.6, however, the problem is finally fixed.
You can now watch your rented movies from any of the devices that are registered with the same Apple ID.
“Called ‘rent once, watch anywhere’, the feature allows users to rent a movie from an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, and watch it on any of the mentioned devices later.” (Source)
You can rent a movie from any of the devices and it will automatically appear in the “Libary” section of all of your other devices.
Here’s a quick walkthrough of the feature in action:
NOTE: In order to use this feature, you must update the software on all your devices.
Here’s a list of the versions you must be running:
- Macs – macOS Sierra 10.12.4 , with iTunes 12.6
- iPads/iPhones – iOS 10.3
- Apple TV – tvOS 10.2
This is a really great feature, and we’re surprised that it took Apple so long to release it!
