It was only a matter of time. It had to happen. Still, we are sad that it has happened  🙁

The news of Apple discontinuing iPod nano and iPod shuffle hasn’t really struck as a shock to most loyalists. The last of the traditional iPod that lacked internet connectivity is gone. They have taken down both the products pretty much quietly from their website, without any announcement. And as of now, if you still look up the products in “learn more” and “buy” links, you’ll land on pages that are no longer available.

The Verge reported that a spokesperson has officially confirmed the discontinuation of the products. For a long time, Apple has maintained the idea of cannibalizing the hardware of its traditional music player to shift people towards iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The pioneering iPod classic was discontinued in the year 2014.

In an email, the spokesperson of Apple stated, “Today, we are simplifying our iPod lineup with two models of iPod touch now with double the capacity starting at just $199 and we are discontinuing the iPod shuffle and iPod nano.”

You can buy the iPod touch in 32GB and 128GB storage options and priced at $299. The previous capacities of 16GB and 64GB aren’t available in the market anymore.

Best Buy and few other authorized retailers might still have some last remaining stock of the iPod shuffle and nano. If you are fond of the technology you can get them at pretty cheap rates now.

Ever since its’ redesigned Bluetooth support for wireless headphones and speakers in 2012, there has been no significant updates done to iPod nano. For the seventh generation models in 2015, Apple launched them in a new batch of colours.

The iPod shuffle, on the other hand, received its ‘last redesign with the fourth generation model in 2010. This made the clip-on music player a quick return to physical controls after its poorly received third generation revision of 2009. Since then the iPod shuffle has also just received colour updates like nano.
