Comparison, comparison. How we hate it when we’re pitched against Mr. Sharma ka beta or a Mrs. Verma ki beti. But when it comes to phones, the more we pit different models against each other, the better. You gotta get your money’s worth, after all. So, in this edition, we bring you the iPhone XR comparison with the newly launched Google Pixel 3a.

Now, every product, even Apple’s (we admit begrudgingly) has both pros and cons. But what matters is if the pros outweigh the cons. There’s nothing in the world that is only good – perfection is a delusion. (Maybe Apple’s an exception; we’ll see.) Despite being positioned in the mid-range market, the two smartphones have a huge price difference. iPhone XR is available in three different prices depending on the storage space starting at ₹59,000, and Google Pixel 3a is for just ₹39,999. So, in the iPhone XR comparison with Google Pixel 3a, which one wins our favour?

The 2 Ds to Show Off- Display & Design

If you like a bigger phone, iPhone XR with its 6.1-inch screen will be your favourite of the two. But if you like to keep things compact, the 5.6-inch display screen by Pixel 3a will win your favour. But given the ‘bigger the phone, better the specs’ trend, this is not a difficult choice.

Moving on, what are your thoughts on plastic? Perhaps the only place where it is acceptable is in the song Barbie by Aqua. But then again, that’s quite debatable, really (I mean, have you read the lyrics?). So, when you’re given a smartphone with a plastic back, I don’t think you’ll be jumping with joy. And that’s what Pixel 3a gives you – plastic, not fantastic. Not at all. While polycarbonate feels sturdy, it comes nowhere near the premium feel of an iPhone XR which comes in a combination of glass and aluminum.

I think the winner in this category is clear as day. iPhone XR – 1. Google Pixel 3a – 0.

The Thing That’s on the Inside – Processor

The powerful performance of iPhone XS backed by the A12 Bionic chip is well known. Apple calls it “The smartest, most powerful chip in a smartphone.” And rightly so. Surprise, surprise! iPhone XR runs on the same A12 Bionic chip. With the next-gen Neural Engine, you experience nothing less than incredibility. The jaw-dropping chip uses real-time machine learning, to enhance your experiences – from photos to gaming to augmented reality and more. What this means is that you can enjoy a mid-range phone which performs like one that is a high-end one.

In comparison, Pixel 3a comes with a Snapdragon 670 processor. And well, let’s just say that it’s not the most impressive processor there is. It fares poorer than Snapdragon 845 which was featured in Google Pixel 3, launched last year. And to put things in context, even Snapdragon 845 couldn’t hold up against A12 Bionic chip. So erm, yeah. Simply put, iPhone XR will perform tremendously better than a Pixel 3a.

The winner of this round – iPhone XR -2. Google Pixel 3a – 0.

The Pictures that Speak a Thousand Words – Camera

For a lot of us, the camera is probably the ace of specs when buying a phone. And if camera spec is what trumps everything else for you, you should probably go for a Google Pixel 3a. The 12.2-megapixel (MP) camera has some amazing features like Top Shot, Super Res Zoom, and Night Sight. The Night Sight mode, especially, is fantastic for low light photography. So, you can bid adieu to the blurry, pixelated photos of your night out.

While iPhone’s 12MP camera isn’t horrible, it isn’t particularly good enough to make you scream. The Portrait Mode is a good feature, but it loses when compared to all that Pixel 3a has to offer.

    There wasn’t much I could write in iPhone XR’s defense so, it’s clear. iPhone XR – 2. Google Pixel 3a – 1.

The One that Lasts – Battery

It’s a close competition. Google pixel 3a comes with a 3000 mAh battery while iPhone XR has a 2942 mAh battery. Of course, the capacity depends on your usage, but since numbers don’t lie, we’ll gracefully accept the facts.

However, there’s one thing that iPhone XR can boast of – it supports wireless charging. Something that Pixel 3a doesn’t. So, that’s still something good.

With this, the two smartphones seem to have tied in this round. iPhone XR – 3. Google Pixel 3a – 2.

The Place Where You Store Everything – Storage

Google Pixel 3a currently offers only the 64GB internal storage option, which isn’t bad, really. But considering it’s a phone whose USP is its fantastic camera, you’d think they’d offer a huge storage space. What’s the point of having a great camera if you don’t have the space for pictures?

iPhone XR, on the other hand, comes in three different variations of the same model based on its storage space – 64GB, 128GB, 256GB. So, depending on what kind of a person you are, and how much space you need to store all your files, you get to choose.

    Final verdict – iPhone XR – 4. Google Pixel 3a – 2.

So, there you go. This edition of iPhone XR comparison comes to an end with Tim Cook and team clinching the title yet again. Do you agree with our verdict? Let us know in the comments section.
