Reports of the iPhone Touch Disease plaguing the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have been pouring in from all parts of the world. We’d written a detailed report on the issue, and if you’re not familiar with the problem, we recommend that you first read that article and learn about this mysterious disease.
In short, this is what had happened
a) Users reported seeing grey/green flickering lines at the top of their screens.
b) The problem was restricted to only iPhone 6 and 6 Plus
c) It was caused by a lower grade chip Apple had used in the new iPhones
This episode became (in)famous worldwide as the iPhone Touch Disease. Since then, iPhone users have been thronging various Apple support forums, looking for a way to fix the problem. Their search and desperation may have finally yielded results.
Apple has started a “repair program” for faulty iPhones.
The smartphone manufacturer, however, denies the possibility that the problem was a manufacturing defect, and claimed it can only happen if the phone was dropped multiple times by the user. Clearly, Apple thinks the problem is caused by user negligence.
“Apple has determined that some iPhone 6 Plus devices may exhibit display flickering or Multi-Touch issues after being dropped multiple times on a hard surface and then incurring further stress on the device,” Apple announced in a public statement.
You might say you don’t care whom Apple blames for the problem, as long as it repairs my phone! While that logic is sound, there’s a catch. Because Apple says it’s your fault the phone is broken, it will not repair the phone for free.
Apple has fixed a whopping Rs 9,900 for this repair program!! And they are calling this ‘a discounted repair program’.
There is some good news. For people who paid more than 9,900 to repair their phones for the Touch Disease, Apple has promised to reimburse the difference.
Apple has specified certain steps for the service process, the most important being:
“Bring your iPhone 6 Plus to a participating Apple Authorized Service Provider. Your iPhone will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for this program and in working order. This program ONLY applies to iPhone 6 Plus.”
We suggest that you please read the terms and conditions in detail. Here’s the link to the official announcement: Multi-Touch Repair Program for iPhone 6 Plus.
