It’s happening! The futuristic shoes from Back to the Future-II is a not-so-distant fantasy anymore, and your iPhone has a role to play in making this cool tech a reality.
Nike is on the verge of launching smart shoes with a self-lacing mechanism that can be controlled with your iPhone. Named Nike Adapt BB, it is a basketball (hence, BB. Duh?) sneaker which will tighten and loosen laces by itself depending on the size of your feet. Some news, huh?
And what if you’re not a basketball player but you’ve got your heart on something futuristic to shod your feet? Well, if you’ve got 25,000 INR to spare, no one’s stopping you. Or judging you. (Pssst … we are!)
But honestly, who’s going to know? Who’s going to come and check if you’re throwing hoops in the court after your smartphone is done tying your laces? Put the shoes to good use. You can start running again. What are you running from, where are you running to … We don’t know. But news like this does make me wonder where the world is heading to.
Perhaps, The Jetsons world is just a few decades away. Cool personal jets, personal robots, and smart shoes. The downside will probably be the number of people who will have forgotten how to tie shoelaces.
In all seriousness though, how much time are you going to save by not tying your damn shoelaces? And what all do you propose to achieve with the ‘wealth’ of your savings? A crucial winning basket, if you’re a professional player. But those who aren’t? Probably loss of flexibility because you can’t be bothered to bend down to tie your laces?
That being said, I’m a closet fan of shoes myself, so I’d buy a pair of these! Except, I’m not made of money and if I had 25,000 bucks, I’d probably splurge on several pairs of the best canvas shoes in the market, not just one.
But hey, even if your iPhone can’t help you stay in control of your life, at least it’ll control your shoe laces! Next step – it might keep you from hooking up with that awful guy who’s been sending you sappy snaps. #dreambig #goingshoeshopping
