Yes, we know that you are still drooling over the stunning iPhone X, but that wasn’t the only phone that Apple announced during the keynote event. There were also the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus models. Although these aren’t as dramatic a change as the iPhone X, they offer some pretty compelling updates.
This year, Apple skipped the s-cycle of iPhones, meaning that it jumped over iPhone 7s and went straight to iPhone 8 (and 8 Plus). However, for all intents and purposes, iPhone 8 is an S upgrade to the iPhone 7. Here are the key changes in this iPhone model:
Form factor
The new iPhones follow the same form factor as the older iPhone 7. There are two versions: the 4.7 inches iPhone 8 and the 5.5 inches iPhone 8 Plus. The big change is that iPhone 8 comes with an all glass body, which means there is glass on the back as well. Going by the pictures and demo videos, it looks sleeker and shinier than iPhone 7.
Colours
iPhone 8 comes in Silver, Space Grey, and a new Gold Finish. Our favourite is still the classy Space Grey, though we think Gold will be the most attractive option as it’s a new colour and clearly distinguishes iPhone 8 from its predecessor.
Retina HD Display with True Tone
The screen resolution has also been improved, and it supports the True Tone feature that was introduced in iPad Pro last year. There is support for a wider colour gamut as well. All in all, the iPhone 8 is sharper than iPhone 7’s, although it’s no match for the OLED display on iPhone X.
Wireless Charging
Another significant change is the added support for wireless charging. The all glass body allows you to keep the iPhone 8 on a wireless charging pad instead of plugging in the lightning cable. It must be noted that the wireless charging accessory is not included with the iPhone and has to be bought separately from third party vendors.
Camera Upgrade
Although the rear cameras on iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are still 12 megapixels, Apple has made noteworthy improvements in hardware and software. The sensors are larger and faster. The colour filters have been improved as well. iPhone 8 Plus has got a new feature of Portrait lighting that’ll allow you to play around with light settings of a picture.
11 Bionic Chip
The new processor on the iPhone 8 models is 70% faster than the previous generation. The graphics are 30% faster as well. And as Apple showed in iOS 11 launch event, the new iPhones are sufficiently adept at handling the augmented reality features.
India Launch & Price
iPhone 8 will come in 64GB and 256GB configurations. It will be launched in India on 29th September, and the starting price for the base model of iPhone 8 will be Rs. 64,000. We will update you about the cost of other models as and when we get an official confirmation.
