Apple’s next iPhone — the iPhone 8, presumably — is likely to cost well into the six digit mark of Rs 1,00,000!!
This year marks the 10th year anniversary of iPhone, and understandably, Apple wants to make it special.
So special, in fact, that it might not even be called iPhone 8! As pointed out by FastCompany —
“The new 5.8-inch phone will probably be called the iPhone 8, but some believe Apple will call it the (far cooler-sounding) iPhone X.”
AppleInsider reports that this special anniversary edition iPhone X could cost well upwards of $ 1,000.
This would mean the that in India, that would cost more than a whopping 1,00,000 Rs!
We shouldn’t be very surprised with the price tag, though, as we’re already near that figure with the high-end iPhone 7 Plus. The 256 GB variant of iPhone 7 Plus costs nearly 95K!
And we already know that the new iPhone 8 – or, iPhone X — will come in new sizes.
Apple is likely to upgrade the 4.7’’ screen to 5’’, and bump up the 5.5” to 5.8”.
A screen size of 5.8″ would definitely mean a price hike. Especially if that screen is going to sport a bezel-free OLED display!
The only consolation we have is the possibility of Apple’s iPhone manufacturing unit in India. All we can do is hope that it’s ready at the earliest and starts production before the iPhone 8 comes out. That way we might not have to pay such a hefty price for the phone.
However, even that seems unlikely. Even ignoring India’s historically lethargic pace when it comes to building infrastructure, Apple’s plans for setting up a manufacturing unit seem to be hitting roadblocks already.
But, we are nothing if not hopelessly optimistic. So we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the iPhone 8 doesn’t cross the 1,00,000 barrier!
