This September, iPhone lovers might finally get the feature update that they have been waiting for since the first iPhone — a bigger battery. Yes! iPhone 7 battery is rumoured to be 14% larger.
With the exception of the chosen few who own an iPhone 6s Plus, every other iPhone user has the same complaint: its battery dies out too soon! For all the firepower that the iPhones pack, for all the features they offer, for all the selfies you have to take, the battery never seems enough.
With iPhone 7, our lives might finally stop revolving around lightning cables.
Pretty reliable (not 100% but almost…) source told me #iPhone7 battery = 1960mAh (#iPhone6s = 1715mAh)

OnLeaks claimed with this tweet that the iPhone 7 battery is going to be around 1,960 mAh. Which, while compared to iPhone 6’s 1,715 mAh is a 14.18% increase.
Now, I know that even at 1,960 mAh, the battery doesn’t seem all that huge. Especially given that other flagship phones have much, much larger batteries. The Samsung Galaxy S7, for example has a 3,000 mAh battery, OnePlus Two boasts a 3,300 mAh battery, and the Asus Zenfone Max claims a ridiculous 5,000 mAh battery!!
However, Apple’s iOS software had always been more power efficient than the Android counterparts. This is because Apple closely controls both hardware and software for their phones, while Android phones are joint efforts of tens of different companies!
Here’s a chart of the battery capacities of the last five iPhones:
As you might have noted, the battery size of iPhone 6s is small than that of iPhone 6. Although it raised a few eyebrows at the launch, the fears were put to rest when it was discovered that Apple has refined the software to drive out the same battery life with a smaller size. Now, if Apple maintains this efficiency in iPhone 7 while increasing the size, we can expect a big increase in the battery life.
Note: There has been no news for iPhone 7 Plus’s battery, so the size indicated in the above chart is an estimate based on the assumption that just like the iPhone 7 battery, the bigger one will grow by 14% as well.
While this is very much a rumour, if it’s true, iPhone 7 will become much more lucrative, even to existing iPhone 6s users. Market pundits are too eager to dismiss iPhone 7 as a boring upgrade, but Mr. Cook has some tricks up his sleeve. And better battery life will surely get a thunderous applause.
