iPhone 5S Discounted!

When Apple slashed the price of iPhone 5s twice in six months, we wondered why. And now we know why. Because it was a clearance sale!

With the launch of the iPhone SE, Apple has discontinued the widely popular 5s. Even we were surprised by the swiftness of it all. And to think It has been less than a week since the new phone was launched!

Does that mean I can’t buy it anymore?

Not necessarily. It only means that Apple has stopped manufacturing the phone. However, you will still be able to buy them from various retailers — both online and offline.

In fact, this move by Apple is quite beneficial in the short run as the prices of this phone have dropped even further. The 5s is now available for as low as 18,000!

But you’d better hurry because the stock is fast running out. In fact, at the time of writing this post, there was just one piece left on Amazon. And Flipkart had already run out of stock! (Although the stock gets replenished regularly, the supply is clearly limited).

Why is this happening?

We’re seeing a classic example of the natural product cycle at work here: “A new version comes out, the oldest version goes out of production, and all the other versions get a price cut.”

With the introduction of iPhone SE, and the discontinuation of 5s, iPhone 6 has become the ‘oldest’ of all iPhone models. And we’re already seeing the repercussions of that as the price correction strategy starts working its magic in the market — You can now get the iPhone 6 for 33K!!

Although it hasn’t come to India yet, the iPhone SE is also likely to follow a similar price trajectory. Since it will be filling the void left by iPhone 5s in the 4-inch category, we can expect the price of the new phone to fall by a few thousand after the first couple of months.

Eventually, we expect the iPhone SE to stabilize around the 35K mark, but that’s only until the iPhone 7 is launched in mid-October.

So what should you do?

Our recommendation is this:

If you want the iPhone 5s, then hurry! You’ve got no time to waste!

If you want the iPhone SE or the iPhone 6, then wait for a couple of months. You’re certain to get a much better deal then.
