Apple has finally released the much-awaited iOS 12.2
Here’s all that we’ll now have once we update our iPhones or iPads:
Apple News+
One of the four services announced at the event; the Apple News+ app is a fantastic little thing that takes the pre-existing Apple News app to a whole new level. With over 300 magazines like TIME, The New Yorker, Vogue, Bon Appétit, and so much more, it gives you the best-stocked newsstand ever. Want a subscription already? Well, for citizens of countries where this feature is available, all you have to do is download iOS 12.2 and start your free trial! Unfortunately, India hasn’t made it to this list, so for now, all we do is wait and hope.
Added Animojis
All you Animoji lovers out there, you now have a choice of picking from four more adorable animals- a boar, shark, owl, and new giraffe! Excited? We sure are, and cannot wait.
AirPlay and HomeKit Support
What with AirPlay coming to smart TVs, Apple has made an effort to integrate AirPlay with iOS 12.2. You can control them from the Home app, and the TV Remote Control has an all-new design.
Better Voice Messages
For any of you who have tried to send a voice message using the Messages app, you know that the voice quality is terrible, to say the least. No more though because iOS 12.2 comes with an Opus codec that is leaps and bounds ahead of the old AMR voice code. The sample rate has tripled from 8,000 Hz to 24,000 Hz, making the end result clearer and way better.
Safari Updates
In addition to a new Motion and Orientation Access toggle in the Privacy and Security section of Safari settings, users also get the benefit of being alerted to non-HTTPS sites. These non-secure sites were earlier only pointed out when the non-HTTPs site requested a password or credit card number.
Maps with AQI and Weather Conditions
The map view now comes with an Air Quality Index which, along with the weather conditions, is visible on the lower right corner of the map view. You also have the choice of turning the weather conditions alert on and off, which was previously missing.
Added Device Support
The new iPad Air, iPad Mini, and AirPods 2 are also supported by iOS 12.2. As for the iPad Pro, there is now an added Logitech Crayon Support.
A Smoother Interface
We’ve already discussed the addition of AirPlay to the Home app. Other interface tweaks include a cleaner ‘last transactions’ list in the Wallet and a new AirPlay screen mirroring icon.
So, that’s all for the new iOS 12.2 update, Apple lovers. Are you satisfied with the tweaks or were you expecting more?
