If you’re an iOS user, you’d be familiar with the urge to press that ‘Install’ button whenever an upgrade is announced by Apple. And if you’re not an iOS user, well, we can’t explain that feeling and you’ll never understand!

Each upgrade promises novelty and like a child on Christmas Eve, we’re eager to unbundle the gifts that Santa (by which we mean Apple, of course) has left for us. We sit with our eyes glued to the screen, following the installation bar as it loads the update. We’re hoping for something brand new to wow us and praying that at least some of the rumours we’ve heard are true. That’s how a typical Apple user works, and we are proud to be like that!

With the release of iOS 10, Apple has proudly announced its usage statistics for iPhone, iPad, and iPod (touch devices only) on developer forums. According to these numbers, 76 percent of the users are already using iOS 10, while iOS 9 is being used by only 18 percent. Whoa!

Launched in September 2016, it has been only five months since iOS 10 was made available to the active user base. In such a short span of time, for 76 percent of the populace to jump onboard is quite an achievement. According to Apple, users are adapting to iOS 10 easily and this is the best that any iOS version has ever achieved.

The high numbers Apple has staked claim to, while impressive, could also be attributed to the fact that iPhone 7 & 7 Plus come preinstalled with iOS 10. As a result, the percentage of active devices running iOS 10 has increased rapidly.

iOS 10 is compatible with iPad Mini 2 and higher versions, iPhone 5 and higher versions, and 6th generation iPod touch. Devices older than that cannot be upgraded and they are still using iOS 9 or iOS 8.

With iOS 10.2 (released in Dec 2016) on our phones, we’re now waiting for iOS 10.3 which is expected to be released by end of Jan 2017. And aren’t we excited about that!
