When it comes to the sales during the holidays, Apple’s products have always stolen the limelight. This holiday season, too, the sales numbers were no different. Out of sheer habit, Apple has emerged the clear leader over rivals like Samsung, LG, and Huawei, etc.
What’s the secret to Apple’s resounding success? Discounts and advertising campaigns? That’s unlikely, because if marketing spend was the deciding factor, Google, with its budget of millions of dollars, should have seen better numbers. But data from “Flurry” — the outfit that brought out the research findings — shows Apple to be the undisputed winner in this segment.
As the holiday season sales report shows, for every device Samsung sold, Apple shipped two!
While Apple’s performance is mind-blowing, the element of surprise come from the presence of Chinese brands among top performers. The fact that they have next to no marketing presence in the U.S. only makes this performance even astounding.
Google, however, was conspicuous by its absence!
“Perhaps not so surprisingly, missing from this chart is the Google Pixel. With only two devices, the Pixel and Pixel XL, and mixed market reception, Google struggled to drum up excitement this holiday season.”
It could be that Google’s new phone Pixel hasn’t had enough time to catch people’s attention. Perhaps over the years, as Google adds more devices to its line up, they will see a rise in their sales numbers.
Yet another surprising trend emerged this year. Phablets outsold all other types of devices…
Phones with screen sizes of 5-6.9 inches were most popular among consumers. The phones in this particular size range — or “phablets” as they are called — accounted for 37% of the total devices sold in the week leading to Christmas. Just two years ago, phablets accounted for just 13% of the sales, but given their popularity last year, it looks like they are here to stay.
Statistics for the sale during the holiday season once again established that Apple devices continue to be the preferred way to show your family you loved them; that they are, indeed, the apple of your eye!
