Google App for iOS Gets a Big Update

Google started off as an online search engine – a platform that pulled up relevant information for users based on keywords. But Google has come a long way since then and they’re looking to change their approach completely. This tech giant wants its users to rely more on it for all kinds of useful information, which it collates and brings right to their devices.

If you thought this convenience was reserved only for Android users, think again. Google has updated its native app on iOS, allowing iOS users to enjoy the Google Now experience that so many people rave about.

Here are some of the features iPhone and iPad users can now make the most of:

    Split View

A stack of cards contains information tailored to your interests. These cards are split into two types – Feed and Upcoming. The Feed cards contain latest updates, such as sports scores and breaking news. The Upcoming section is for the personal information Google deems fit for you to know, such as traffic jam warnings.

    Incognito Mode

This mode gives you the privacy you desire. When turned on, it prevents your browsing history from being saved. For more security, you can enable Touch ID to ensure that no one can log into the app, but you.

    YouTube Integration

Yes, for real! You can now watch YouTube videos right from within the app. No need to open safari or switch to the YouTube app. Start watching the videos you like right away. It’s fun like never before.

    Under the Hood

The Google app syncs instantaneously across all your devices and merges user history. You get more accurate results and overall, the app is faster, lighter and more compatible across all the platforms.

All this is fine, but how does Google compare with iOS’ super assistant Siri? Let’s find out …

    Customization

When it comes to customization, Google is miles ahead of Siri. While Apple’s assistant has us in something of a straitjacket, Google can easily be adapted to your preference.

    Result type

Siri is to the point while Google is quite pro-active. It attempts to predict exactly what you want. With Siri, you have to be specific with searches so that you don’t waste your precious time and efforts.

    Different strokes

While Apple places your privacy as its topmost priority; Google is known for its love of your data.

It is good news for the consumers that Apple is now opening up its doors to accommodate third party apps that have native integration with it. The gap between iOS and Android is gradually closing with this latest development and consumers at large will be the happiest beneficiaries of this update.
