Apple is soon going to launch a video editing app called CLIPS.Simply put, it’s a tool for creating short format, instantly shareable video content.
When you buy a new iPhone, it comes pre-loaded with a bunch of apps. And except for a handful of them, like Safari and iTunes, we don’t really use a whole lot of them. However, Apple promises that this won’t be the case with the Clips app.
Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Apps Product Marketing, said —
“Clips gives iPhone and iPad users a new way to express themselves through video, and it’s incredibly easy to use.”
Well, from the first look, the iPhone Clips app looks very similar to Snapchat’s or Instagram’s “stories” feature. Which even Facebook has started now. The only difference (probably) is going to be that CLIPS might give a lot more control over the editing aspect. That would be a welcome change because most of the other instant video software out there only have standard filters. We can’t really create something new.
Capture
The opening interface is simple — you can either shoot a video directly, or just pick one (previously shot) from your library.
Speak
An interesting feature is the ability of CLIPS to generate subtitles as you speak. It also lets you cool animation and effects to it. Of course, it will be a long time before this feature comes for Hindi. Or even starts accurately recognizing Indian accent.
Filter
Of course, there are the standard filters and effects. Just like in Instagram or Snapchat, there are color filters, overlaying emoticons, and all sorts of other “jazzy” effects.
Recognize
CLIPS makes a special use of facial recognition technology and finds out who’s in the video with you. Of course, it won’t be perfect from the get-go, but it should get better as you use the app more and more.
Another plus point for Apple Clips is going to be the ability to share to multiple platforms. Unlike with other Social Media apps, where in you are restricted to only one single platform, here you can easily share your content on any outlet you like.
Whether or not the new Apple Clips app will take over the other competitors is very difficult to answer right now. What we can say with much more confidence, though, is that CLIPS will surely find more users than its in-house rival — iMovie — which also comes pre-installed in the bigger iPhones.
