Bluetooth 5 has just been officially adopted by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (BSIG). This could give Apple a reason to boast about the new iPhone and iPad’s wireless connectivity, which can cover up to four times the distance at double the speed.
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (BSIG) is a body that oversees the development of standards of Bluetooth and the licensing of Bluetooth technologies and trademarks. The manufacturers are duty bound to refer to them to approve of whatever innovations they want to bring in before making their designs public.
With the launch of Bluetooth 5, this technology continues to develop features that adopt improved interoperability and coexistence with other wireless technologies. Here’s what you can expect from Bluetooth 5.
Extended range
Bluetooth 5 offers four times the range of its predecessors. This increase in range also means that Bluetooth may now be able to replace Wi-Fi as a communication technology for most IoT (Internet of Things) applications.
Double transmission speed
Bluetooth 5 will feature twice the transmission speed of Bluetooth v4.2, allowing users to send and receive data a lot more quickly. Also, this reduces power consumption by up to half, thereby increasing the device’s battery life substantially.
Huge increase in broadcasting capacity
Bluetooth 5 will come with an 800% increase in data broadcasting capacity, and the data transferred will be richer and more intelligent. Thus, these devices will now be able to receive and interact with location-based services without having to install any additional apps or set up any connection beforehand.
It does look like Bluetooth 5 is going to make things a lot easier for us!
Although it has been officially launched in the market, Bluetooth 5 is not yet available on devices worldwide. It is now up to the manufacturers to incorporate this technology in their upcoming handsets. Estimates suggest that major players could possibly upgrade in the next two to six months.
The sooner the better, we say!
The Apple Connection
Apple has a reputation for adopting the latest technologies. Obviously, this new tech too is likely to make its way into product revisions in 2017. A refresh of the iPad Pro from Apple is expected in the first quarter of 2017, and it might be the first of Apple’s products to feature Bluetooth 5. Apple’s iPhone, which is due for release next fall, is also expected to incorporate this latest version of Bluetooth.
The demands at home and offices are becoming increasingly difficult to cope with. The Bluetooth 5, with its speed and precision, is a welcome development. To make the most of it, other devices should also upgrade to Bluetooth 5 asap so that all devices can work seamlessly like a charm.
