If you’re an iPhone user, chances are you’ve tried to impress friends and family by showing of Hey Siri. However, there’s a lot that Siri can accomplish apart from a boosting your social stature. Sadly enough, we are grossly unaware of Siri’s full potential. Most people don’t bother using it. And those that do, stick to the basic functions, like looking up the day’s weather and sending text messages.
So, what all can Siri do? Thankfully, you don’t have to rack your brains to answer that question ‘cos we’re brining you the most comprehensive list of Hey Siri commands found on the Internet!
A post on 9to5Mac identified a site called hey-siri.io that has a “list of all the questions and commands [that] Siri can process”. Naturally, our interest was piqued and we couldn’t help but take a look. And what we came across had to be shared with you.
The site lists 489 commands that Siri can respond to, and they are broken down into as many as 35 categories! There’s also a search bar on the site for easy navigation, where you can type in your query and see if there’s any way Hey Siri can help you.
There are some very interesting commands that we certainly didn’t know before! For example:
- Say “Tweet with my location great view!” and Siri will send out a Tweet with your location embedded and a caption saying “Great view!”
- Or you could ask Siri “Is the Red Fort open now?” and it’ll pull up the timings from the net. Very handy if you’re travelling to a new city and want to see if the local attractions are open at a given time!
- Also handy when you’re in a new town is the live translation! Problems with a foreign language? Not a problem! Ask Siri “Translate light from English to French” and up comes the answer flashing merrily on your screen!
- Siri can also bail you out of hard decisions. Ask Siri to “Flip a coin” or “Pick a card” or “Roll a die” and you’ll get a guaranteed randomised result. No emotions, pure calculations! So the next time you’re stuck deciding between a dinner with your girlfriend’s family or bowling night with buddies, just ask your phone to flip a coin!
Now tell me all that isn’t fascinating!
In the last 5 years or so, we’ve seen a host of virtual assistants come onto the global stage. Every major player has their own version — Apple’s Hey Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, Google’s Google Now, and, more recently, Amazon’s Echo. Each of them has it’s own special appeal and each proudly claims to be the best of the lot.
However, I don’t think there’s much doubt which one we’ll be rooting for, is there? (Hint: It starts with an S and rhymes with Giri)
