No Headphone Jack on Galaxy S8, and Other Things Samsung is Copying from Apple

SamMobile, a site dedicated exclusively to Samsung mobile devices, claims to have exclusive news about the company’s upcoming device Galaxy S8.

The Galaxy S8 will be dropping the 3.5 mm jack. Just like the iPhone 7!

The similarities with Apple’s upcoming smartphone are numerous and uncanny. Apart from the “no audio jack”, we have a couple of other features that Galaxy S8 may have copied been inspired by.

    • No physical home button. Instead, the home button will be ingrained into the touch panel.
    • Ditching the standard USB connector and moving onto a faster, USB-C type connector.
    • Quite possibly, Samsung will also bundle a 3.5mm-to-USB-C converter with the Galaxy 8. Again, just like Apple did with iPhone 7.

SamMobile tries to explain why Samsung is considering these steps, despite the possibility of being labelled a “copy-cat”. An excerpt from the report —

The new Super AMOLED display of the Galaxy S8 is going to have the standard RGB arrangement, it will consume less power and will have a longer service life. The RGB array is going to provide a noticeable improvement in virtual reality environments.

We’ve also heard that Samsung is going to ditch the home button in its next flagship. The screen-to-body ratio is going to be very high and the design will be similar to that of the Galaxy Note 7. The fingerprint sensor will be embedded within the display itself making the Galaxy S8 the first handset to feature proper optical fingerprint identification.

After the debacle of exploding Note 7 devices, Samsung is sure to be extra careful with how they handle the publicity and promotion of their new phone. For now, their strategy appears to be to be ‘Let’s cram all possible features into Galaxy S8 and hope it generates some interest’!

To be entirely honest, that’s not such a bad game plan, especially for Android users, who are going to be in for a treat when the Galaxy S8 launches!
