Exploding Note 7 Forces Samsung to Start Global Recall

Galaxy Note 7 was among the most anticipated smartphones of 2016, and Samsung had high expectations of this phone. Unfortunately, all their hopes have gone up in flames, pretty much like the phone itself, which seems to be prone to exploding. Yes, exploding!

After being hailed as the best smartphone ever made, the Note 7 is making headlines again, but this time, it’s for all the wrong reasons.

Multiple reports have emerged of brand new Note 7 phone exploding without warning, leaving the device a charred wreck and the owner fairly dumbstruck. This news spread like wildfire, changing Note 7’s launch into a horror story of epic proportions.

This video shows exactly how dangerous the problem is:

Samsung has launched an investigation into the matter, and preliminary reports says that the problem lies with the battery. The company also claims that the fault is affecting only “a small percentage” of the devices.

Samsung said “Products installed with the problematic battery account for less than 0.1 percent of the entire volume sold. The problem can be simply resolved by changing the battery, but we’ll come up with convincing measures for our consumers.”  (Source: Yonhap News)

While they say that the problem can be fixed by replacing the battery, Samsung is not taking any chances. They’ve already started a device recall in the US, and the rest of the world is likely to follow soon. They’ve also stopped shipping any more devices for the time being.

Samsung was quoted as saying this by Reuters: “Shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 are being delayed due to additional tests being conducted for product quality.” The report does not elaborate on the nature of the tests being conducted and neither does it provide a timeframe for the said delay.

We have to admit this whole incident is extremely unfortunate. It’s a low time for Samsung, especially considering the fact that Note 7 was getting rave reviews. Initial reports had pegged this model as a sure shot winner, with impressive features like Iris scan and underwater functionality.

There are those who believe Apple might be enjoying this fiasco that’s brought their competitor some amount of bad publicity. After all, the Note 7 did dethrone Apple from their number 1 spot on the smartphones chart. And with the iPhone 7 due for launch on September 7, this debacle their competitor is facing will undoubtedly go in Apple’s favour.

Irrespective of any benefit that Apple might receive from this fiasco, we believe the company won’t be so callous as to celebrate a problem that could be potentially dangerous. And we’re not just saying this as Apple fans.

And for those of our friends who’re considering buying a Note 7, we strongly recommend you wait for the time being. It’s only a matter of a few weeks and you won’t have to worry about your phone being unsafe to use.
