There’s a reason why Apple is one of the biggest players in technology right now. Because every product launch, news and updates they make tend to spark discussions on social platforms. And discussions give rise to rumours. Here we are, with all the relevant Apple iPhone 12 rumours that have been making news before the launch of the company’s newest asset!
Launch date might be pushed further
With the current pandemic restricting productions, Apple might have to push back the iPhone 12 release date by a month or so, from September (Q3) to October (Q4). We’ve already seen this before with iPhone XR and honestly, a one month delay is something we can live with.
The iPhone 12 lineup
According to reports, Apple might release four new iPhones in three display sizes (5.4, 6.1, and 6.7 inches). All of the devices are to feature OLED displays and a 120 Hz ‘ProMotion’ technology. The rumoured devices are iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
iPhone 12 design ~ iPhone 4 design?
Rumours suggest at least two of the new iPhones will be redesigned with a metal frame, similar to what we saw with iPhone 4 back in 2011. This brings back the distinctive stainless steel frame and one of my personal favourites designs.
5G
As the world braces itself for the new 5G technology, so does Apple! One certain rumour has it that the new iPhone will have a 5G connectivity. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects four 5G models, all being launched at the same time, while other analysts are expecting them to be launched in phases.
The new A14 processor
All the four models of iPhone 12 coming in 2020 will use an Apple-designed bleeding-edge 5-nm A14 chip manufactured by TSMC. The new processor is expected to bring both speed and efficiency improvements, slightly increasing the battery life. The chip will also focus on speeding up artificial intelligence and Augmented Reality.
3D Time-of-Flight rear camera
Speaking of AR, this strong rumour claims that the new iPhone 12 might include a 3D-ToF rear camera with VSCEL technology. This will be helpful for the Augmented Reality that Apple is so dearly gearing up for.
Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization for iPhone 12 Pro Max
According to Ming, new iPhone models could include sensor-shift image stabilization as an enhancement to the ultra-wide camera. Currently, the iPhone 11 Pro’s triple camera system has optical image stabilization that works only for two cameras. The sensor-shift image stabilization could be a way to stabilize all the three cameras.
120 Hz ‘ProMotion’ Technology
Apple might be planning for a 120 Hz ProMotion Display that adjusts dynamically according to the screen content. This provides more fluid scrolling and higher response. This could work similarly as a ProMotion iPad Pro, changing the screen refresh rate depending on whether you’re gaming, surfing or just casually having a conversation.
