It’s that time of the year again when it rains updates, updates, and more updates. As the mercury rises beyond the point of endurance, we have some good news in the form of software updates.
It’s not chilled beer and scrumptious ice creams, and smooth yogurt-y desserts (which is what you’re really dying for!); but at least some of our problems will be solved, giving us one less thing to crib about!
So here’s a quick rundown of the updates from the four major departments of the Apple ecosystem:
Mac OS X (El Capitan 10.11.5)
What’s new?
It promises to improve “the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac.”.
No specific upgrades have been mentioned, so we are guessing this is just a “patch” update to prepare the users for a major update coming up in the WWDC. While we’re certainly excited about that, we do hope that this update fixes the problem of “sudden freezing” that a lot of people experienced after the 10.11.4 update.
How to download?
Open the AppStore app on your Mac. Navigate to the “Updates” tab. You should see the update available to download at the very top.
iOS 9.3.2
What’s new?
- Available for compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices.
- Fixes Game Centre bug: The Game Centre App was causing some iPhones to freeze unexpectedly and users had to force restart their devices.
- Simultaneous use of Night Shift Mode and Low Power Mode is now possible.
- Fixes a bug that caused audio-quality issues with Bluetooth devices.
How to download?
On your iOS device, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
iTunes 12.4
What’s new?
- The sidebar is back and a new “media picker” is introduced. Both will aid quicker navigation.
- Simplified menus and “back” and “forward” buttons to quickly switch between content.
- Fixed a database issue (publicly acknowledged by Apple) which caused random deletion of music libraries.
How to download?
The update should show up in the “Updates” section of the Appstore app on your Mac. Alternatively, open iTunes and you should get a prompt like this –
tvOS 9.2.1 and watchOS 2.2.1
Both updates offer bug fixes and minor improvements.
Again, there is no specific information because these are not radical updates. Rather, they are mainly “maintenance” updates. We strongly recommend you download and install these in order to be ready for the next major update cycle due in June.
Both the updates can be found in the “Settings” menu of the respective devices.
