Last evening, Apple’s official website showed a surprise listing. The Cupertino company has (finally) added the MagSafe Battery Pack to its list of accessories available for iPhone 12 models. Yes, you can use Apple’s wireless MagSafe-equipped powerbank with the iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max!
Apple says the pack will be compatible with all iPhone 12 models running iOS 14.7 or later. So, expect an OTA update shortly.
Charge Your iPhone On-the-Go
The MagSafe Battery Pack is designed for heavy users who want longer battery life without having to scramble for a charger. If you have an iPhone 12, you can charge your device on-the-go with the new battery pack.
The magnets at the back of your iPhone align perfectly with the pack, capable of charging your iPhone with up to 5W of charging power. Plus, if you plug in your battery pack to a 20W or higher adapter, both devices can fastcharge simultaneously.
The pack includes Apple’s charge management feature to maintain the iPhone’s battery health in prolonged charging. Also, with the next iOS 14.7 update, Apple will add the MagSafe pack to the Batteries Widget for quick management.
Like the optimised battery charging feature for regular chargers, the iPhone accessory will stop powering up your iPhone past 80%. However, you can force charge the iPhone 12 by tapping on the notification.
Reverse Charging on iPhone 12: Is That Happening?
As mentioned previously, you can simultaneously charge your iPhone 12 and the MagSafe Battery Pack by attaching the pack to a cable. And guess what? Apple says the simultaneous charge feature can work in a vice-versa scenario.
Yup! You can plug in a cable on your iPhone, and the battery pack will be powered up using reverse charging technology. This feature comes in handy if you’re transferring photos to a computer or using wired Apple CarPlay. We’re hoping the reverse charging capabilities aren’t limited to just the MagSafe Battery Pack, and Apple includes support to charge other devices as well.
If you want my advice, use Mac’s 30W charger to make the most of the reverse charging capabilities.
MagSafe Battery Pack: The Perfect Companion
Priced at ₹10,900 on the Apple India online store, the MagSafe Battery Pack is currently unavailable but we’re expecting deliveries to start by the end of the month. The pack is compatible with most cases for the iPhone 12. However, Apple advises you to use a MagSafe case for perfect compatibility.
It’s available in a single shade of white, and I hope I can keep it clean if I ever purchase the pack or the iPhone 12 (fingers crossed). What about you? Are you going to be one of the happy customers? Tell us in the comments!
