Remember the 1980’s movie “The Burning Train” ? The one in which Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna and Jeetendra were running around wearing bizarre silver foil outfits to save the passengers on a train that was burning? It’s one of those movies which fall under the “it’s-so-bad-that-it’s-good” category for a number of reasons. But hey, hang on, why are we suddenly talking about The Burning Train? Well, it turns out, a tune from a song composed for the movie has found its way in the new Apple iPhone X ad.
Apple’s latest ad for the iPhone X produced by Pete Cannon not only shows a funny take on Apple’s Face ID but also repeatedly plays the first 8 to 10 seconds of “Meri Nazar Hai Tujh Pe” from the movie… you guessed it, “TheBurning Train”, showcasing the unique, upbeat, and high tempo musical style of legendary Indian music composer R. D. Burman.
The ad shows a high school girl suddenly realizing the power of her face and unlocking every locked item she looks at from school lockers to chains in the parking lot.
Pete Cannon, the music producer shared the video on Twitter and said that he produced the music for Apple iPhone X.
Soon people started realising that the music in this video has already produced by RD Burman’s ‘Burning Train’. Don’t believe us? Take a look!

Although the official credits for the music go to Pete Cannon, he acknowledges his inspiration as soon as the criticism began and Twitterati called it a “direct rip-off” of the original version.
This is a direct rip-off (no not even a cover version) from Indian composer RD Burman's song. Please give him due credit @petecannonbeats @Apple . https://t.co/uZwiu6PNKl

He later clarified in a tweet saying, “I just want to address the sample used in the new Apple iPhone X advert. It samples a track from the great R. D. Burman’s ‘Burning Train’ and it’s a MAGICAL piece of music! It was cleared/licensed via Blurred Recs courtesy of Saregama. Everyone is on board and loves it.”
Now Indians be like “Chura Liya Hai Apple Ne Jo Dil Ko”
And Apple be like “Tere Bina Jiya Jaaye Na”
Anyhoo, Apple ain’t the only one using Indian music. Bollywood music has made an appearance in a number of more projects like the Inside Man, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Moulin Rouge and the very famous Deadpool.
