This is utterly, completely, purely, entirely, add a few more synonyms if you will, and you’ll get the sentiment… ridiculous! The 2019 iPhones haven’t even been ‘officially’ announced yet. And we’re already moving on to sorting through the myriad of rumors surrounding the Apple iPhone 2020. Like I said, ridiculous. But inescapable! *Devil Grin*
And that’s why we’ve got one more rumor coming your way! Now, a fair warning. Take everything I say with a big grain of salt. And don’t be bamboozled if Apple alters its plans before the launch as there’s still plenty of time left before the design and features are set in stone.
Time to Spill the Tea!
Rejoice Apple-ites! 2020 may finally be the year when we’ll be blessed with Apple’s full-on rear-facing AR camera on the iPhone. As you can see, Cook’s plan to enhance iPhone photography is expected to go well beyond adding a third rear camera. Now, don’t you go about doubting us. We’ve got Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and Debby Wu backing us up!
“The rear-facing, longer-range 3-D camera is designed to scan the environment to create three-dimensional reconstructions of the real world. It will work up to about 15 feet from the device, the people said. That’s in contrast with the current iPhone 3-D camera system, which points toward users and operates at distances of 25 to 50 centimeters to power Apple’s Face ID facial-recognition feature.”
If we are to go by Bloomberg’s report, Apple’s developing a fancy new 3D camera system. One that will use a laser scanner (ooh la la) to capture depth perception at distances much greater than the existing dot projection system used in Face ID on current iPhones.
The existing TrueDepth system is great and all, but is still only able to operate within a few inches of the point of focus. And that works out great for a Selfie, yes. But when you’re trying to capture that gram-worthy view, it doesn’t quite cut it. Fortunately, the new TrueDepth system will apparently be capable of operating up to 15 feet away from the point of focus. And that, sir, is a substantial upgrade.
Brownie Rumor For You
Confirming the rumor that was going around, the latest gossip from Digitimes states that “Apple has reportedly asked its supply chain partner to supply VCSEL ( Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) components for use in rear ToF (Time Of Flight) camera lens in its mobile devices to be released in 2020, according to supply chain sources.”
Now, for the noob out there, using ToF camera will allow Apple to offer us with advanced AR and 3D scanning features for the 2020 iPhone. (So, basically, what I said it would do in the para above).
Leaving so soon?
More in the Cards
Speculators predict that Apple has another camera upgrade in the stores for iPhone 11. And owing to the countless leaks about the rear camera of the next iPhone, a third camera seems to be a definite upgrade. Zip it, Miss Android-already-has-the-three-rear-camera-feature!
Now, where was I… Yeah so, as you can see, Apple’s near future seems to be quite busy. At least I hope so coz Apple’s finances could use some boost. And what better than major product introductions with enticing features to keep the customers coming back for more?
Oh, and if you aren’t an AR fan, well, too bad for you! Because we, my ignorant friend, have moved on to a world with Apple Glasses. So, it’s about time you dipped your toe into an AR pool!
