After a glowing sales quarter, Tim Cook spoke about the immense potential of Apple India and their future plans in the region. Despite recent setbacks from the Indian government, he was generous in his praise for the country.
India is remarkable and fast-growing
Speaking to the Economic Times, Cook agreed that Apple is still under-prepared for India. He observed that there is a great potential for growth for his company and that he is optimistic Apple India will soon start to expand its capacity rapidly.
“We set a new March quarter record for India, where revenue grew by strong double digits. We continue to strengthen our local presence across the entire ecosystem, and we’re very optimistic about our future in this remarkable country with its very large, young, and tech-savvy population, fast-growing economy, and improving 4G network infrastructure,” he said.
Apple’s CFO, Luca Maestri clarified later that —
“India was one of the markets where Apple’s quarterly revenue grew by over 20 percent.”
Taking pride in their good sales figures, Tim Cook confirmed that India is one of the only markets where Apple is continuing to show an upward movement in numbers.
Unprecedented growth of 4G internet
Cook was also very impressed by the recent 4G-LTE revolution in India that was ushered by Reliance Jio. Calling the growth “unprecedented”, Cook was vocal about how this is a boon for Apple India.
A lot of Apple services in India are not functional because of lack of proper infrastructure such as a good internet connection. With the advent of an affordable, fast, and reliable network in India, Cook is hopeful that Apple India will be able to provide more and more services.
“Now that the 4G infrastructure is going in the country and is continuing to be expanded, that there is a huge opportunity for Apple there,” he said.
