After the year Apple had in 2018 – releasing a bunch of new products and then watching their underwhelming sales across the world – this year’s signature Apple Events can’t come soon enough for Tim Cook & Co.
Now, even with the ever-churning Apple rumor mill, it is impossible for us to truly know what the Cupertino based tech giant has in store for us during any given year. But we sure can look at trends that they’ve maintained in the past years and speculate. So, without further ado, here are our top guesses for what products we might see from Apple this 2019.
March Event
In the years 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, and 2018, Apple hosted events in March that have seen major product launches. The most memorable of them were the 12-inch MacBook, the 9.7-
What we’re hoping to see this year is an iPad Mini update because it’s been 3 years since the Mini 4 and honestly, that is 2 years too many. And if it’s along the lines of the 9.7-inch model, we can expect it to get a non-laminated screen with Apple Pencil support, making it the most pocket-friendly iPad in the range.
Other products that we’re anticipating include a new, smaller, and inexpensive (by Apple standards) model of the iPhone SE along with AirPower, which wasn’t ready for Apple’s 2018 launch but could probably be a part of this year’s line up.
World Wide Developers Conference
Everything else may or may not happen, but Apple’s annual World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) is as good as confirmed. For the past couple of years, San Jose, California, has been the chosen spot for this conference that is held in the first half of June. According to a leaked date, it seems like this trend will continue with the conference being held between 3rd and 7th June.
The WWDC has been Apple’s preferred event for releasing software updates, and more often than not, it’s been an exclusively software-centric affair.
What we’re hoping to see this year is iOS 13 (well, duh) which is rumored to have its own version of macOS Mojave’s beloved dark mode. But we’re also holding our breath for a lot more updates.
In addition to iOS 13, we’re also pumped for macOS update and watchOS 6. However, unlike with products, it’s impossible to predict anything when it comes to software given how tight-lipped Apple is about them. So, at this point, it’s really anyone’s guess what we can expect from WWDC 2019.
Moving away from the realm of software updates, there have been a lot of speculations surrounding new Mac Pros and how 2019 might just be the year for them. We might be seeing them at the WWDC if the past pattern continues. Remember the unveiling of the Mac Pro in 2013 and iMac Pro in 2017’s WWDC event? We’re hoping for something similarly spectacular.
September Event, AKA The Big One
Every second Tuesday of September means one and only one thing for Apple lovers – the launch of the new iPhone, and maybe even a new iPad and Apple Watch.
The rumors for the new iPhone so far have included a new A13 processor, an AR camera, and a couple of changes in the body’s design, such as a smaller notch. But what people are really curious about is how the new series will be named; will it be the iPhone 11? Will the roman numerals trend be continued? Or will they stay on the X trend and perhaps go from iPhone Xs to iPhone Xl? Who knows? Not us.
As for the new Apple Watch, people are definitely holding out hope for Series 5 which’ll hopefully feature more ECG apps and a longer battery life.
The October Event
This event is similar to the March event in the sense that some years it happens and the others it doesn’t. The dates, too, vary greatly. But the main focus of this event has always been iPads, Macs, and iMacs; and since Apple didn’t launch a super slim 12-inch MacBook in 2018, that’s definitely a model we’re looking forward to. And we’re really hoping that it comes with a Touch Bar, or at least a Touch ID like the MacBook Air.
The iPad Pro is also something we might see at this event, especially if they manage to do away with the flaws that the 2018 iPads had.
All in all, we’re on the edge of our seats to see what Apple gives to us this year, because while last year saw a lot of launches, there were some gaping holes in terms of iPad mini, a MacBook Pro sans Touch Bar, a new 12-inch MacBook, iMac, and AirPower Mat. That is a very interesting line up and we’re hoping we see some, if not all, of these this year. Until then, we’re watching Apple’s every move like a bunch of hawk-eyed fanboys.
