https://twitter.com/theASutra Apple is famous for their love for good design. That affection is extended to everyone in their ecosystem and they do it by appreciating those who excel in design. We’re talking about the Apple Design Awards, of course.

What are these Awards? Are they like the Oscars or something?

Close, but better. The Apple Design Awards are announced annually by Apple (duh!) in recognition of the best apps in the App Store. They look for everything, from ease of use to visual appeal to actual productivity. These awards are one of the highest marks of honour for any iOS/Mac developer, a seal of approval directly from Apple! What more do you want?

Wow. Looks fun. When were the winners announced?

The Apple Design Awards have an entire event dedicated to them at the annual WWDC. Just goes to show how highly Apple value them. According to its official description, “The event is meant to recognize the best and most innovative Macintosh and iOS software and hardware produced by independent developers, as well as the best and most creative uses of Apple’s products.”

So, who were the winners this year? Tell me, tell me!!

    Shaant Gada-dhaari Bheem, Shaant!

Although there are a lot of apps that feature in the Apple Design Awards 2016, we’ve decided to go for the best ones. Here are our top picks:

As the name suggests, it’s a complete medical guide for students of medicine. The highly detailed and high-res 3D renderings of human body make for an unparalleled learning tool for students. The app is optimised to tap into the high grade specs of the iPad Pro to create stunning visuals that make learning fun!

If you liked Temple Run or Subway Surfer, you’re just gonna love this game. Chameleon Run has some of most beautiful graphics you’ll come across in any auto runner game. It’s action packed and fast paced, but that’s not its highlight. The game has Siri Remote integration on the tvOS and unlike most runner games, it supports multi-touch on iOS!!

Zova is a personal trainer and fitness app. Unlike traditional fitness apps, however, it doesn’t come just with a bunch of pre-set routines. The content is generated based on your idea of a achievable target and then a personalised set of routines are delivered to you in HD via the AppleTV.

“With rich, well-considered, polished video content and clever design, Zova delivers high resolution streaming videos with special consideration paid to the context of the user.” Says the ADA webpage. This is another app with Siri Remote integration.

Obviously, we saved the best for the last! This is our favourite one of the lot, because it’s for WRITERS!!

The modern day writer has moved away from the traditional pen-and-paper method of working. Nowadays, we do most of our writing directly on the computer. While that helps us with the research and editing, the computer’s also a Pandora’s box full of distraction. Hence the need for a clean writing app.

Ulysses does that. And then some! It’s clean, clutter-free, distraction free and yet full of features that enhance writing many times over. To quote Apple themselves —

Ulysses enables Fullscreen Mode, Dark Mode, and Minimal mode, and supports multitasking for Split View and Slide Over, 3D Touch, Sharing Extensions, Spotlight search, Handoff between devices, and iCloud syncing so writers can switch seamlessly between their devices at any time without their writing process being interrupted.

    We are so SOLD!!

Available on Mac, iPad, and iPhone.

    BONUS:

This one’s for the music lovers. You can create and share music with ease and surprising quality. We’ll not say much expect this: The app has over 4,000 5-star rating on the App Store!

Go find your inner A R Rahman!

    Available on all iOS devices.

We urge you all to go get these apps and use them. If you’re already using them, we’d love to hear your thoughts on it. Send in a review of any of these apps (or any other app that you love), and we’ll see if we can post it on your site!

So what are you waiting for? Go to the App Store now!
