If you’ve ever dreamed of owning an Apple Car, smile … because your dream is one step closer to being realized.
A couple of months back, we’d posted an article on the rumours that were flying around about Apple being involved with making a car. Nothing was confirmed at that time and we had made several leaps of faith.
Even now, nothing is set in concrete. There’s no official declaration, no inside source, and no leaked secrets. Nothing. And yet, the signs are becoming more and more prominent.
According to the latest piece of information we’ve got our hands on (courtesy domain information provider Who.is), a whole bunch of domain names were booked by Apple in December. Some of these were “apple.car”, “apple.cars” and “apple.auto”.
Speculations are rife that they’ve been registered to promote Apple’s CarPlay software. However, CarPlay is too small a product to demand its own domain name. Besides, something as visible as “apple.car” is hardly fit for a minor product.
Apple has zealously been hiring many engineers from Hyundai, Chrysler, and Bentley – all stalwarts of the automobile industry. Other companies that have lost people from their senior management to Apple include Fiat, Michelin, Toyota, and Nissan. Giants like Ford, Mercedes-Benz, and even Tesla have not been spared.
With the Silicon Valley going all gaga about the auto industry, we are inclined to believe that Cars are going to be the next big thing. And just like our mobile phones got all swanky and chic, we hope our cars will come one step closer to science fiction too!
