As is the case with all Apple products still in the pipeline, there is a thick cloud of rumours surrounding the 2019 iPhones. Everyone who’s anyone has something to say, so we too decided to join the party and weigh in on some of the most popular rumours circulating about Apple’s future flagship phones.
Two-Way Wireless Charging
You read that right! According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (who’s a bit of a wizard when it comes to predicting Apple’s next move), Tim Cook and the team could very well launch the new iPhone all decked out with two way wireless charging. What this essentially means is that you can charge your other wireless charging enabled Apple devices using your iPhone. With this feature, charging your Apple Watch and AirPods case would be as easy as placing their case on top of your iPhone! Sounds fantastic, doesn’t it?
The best part is that it’s entirely plausible too. Here’s why. Firstly, Samsung has already launched phones with two-way wireless charging. This means that the technology already exists, and Apple doesn’t have a single reason not to incorporate it in their iPhones. Secondly, with the AirPower mat swept off the table, Apple is going to have to incorporate wireless charging in their products in some way. So, why not use their most popular and most handy product- the iPhone?
There has been a ton of speculation about the 2019 iPhone cameras and how they’re going to be
Triple Camera Setup for the Xs Max Equivalent
For all those who’ve seen the leaked renders of the next generation iPhone, know exactly what I’m talking about. But if you haven’t, here’s the rundown. One of the most trusted leakers of the Apple community (yup, that’s a thing) dropped a render of an iPhone that featured a bump on the top left corner. Square and bulbous, this bump packed in it three cameras and an LED flash. At that time, it was quickly dismissed, but now with a revelation of a complete schematic of the rear case, this might not be so far from Apple’s plans.
It’s speculated that the cameras will be lined up horizontally right above the Apple logo. They will allow a larger view field, a higher quality zoom, and more pixel allowance. It is rumoured that the first two cameras will be 10 and 14 megapixels respectively. We’re yet to know the details of the third one.
Dual Camera System for the XR Equivalent
when it comes to ‘low-end’ iPhone of the three, it seems like Apple is planning to up the stakes. And most analysts think that they’ll do this by upgrading the single lens to a dual camera system similar to the one the Xs and Xs Max versions come with currently.
Processor, processor, processor AKA the muscle of a phone. Fresh from the rumour mill are reports of the Apple upgrading from the A12 Bionic processor to what is being called the A13 processor. With an A 7 nanometer CPU, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is the alleged manufacturer.
You either hate the iPhone notch or love it, but if rumours hold, you might not see it going away in 2019. Now, we know why Apple hasn’t upgraded to a no-notch punch hole camera like Samsung. One, they don’t have the tech required for a punch hole camera. Two, their 3D facial recognition, the machinery for which is housed in the notch.
Sensor manufacture, AMS, recently announced their new optical sensor that “accurately measures the intensity of ambient light from behind an OLED screen.” With the new TCS3701 Color and Proximity Sensor launched by AMS, we’d like to think that all the hurdles are a thing of the past and that the 2019 iPhones will come with the smallest ever notch or no notch at all. But not so fast, mister, for there are still hoops to be jumped through such as the traditional as well as the infrared front camera, the speaker, and the infrared dot emitter. What will Apple do with these? Will some of these features be clubbed together to take up less notch real estate or will some be chucked off the property entirely? Only time (and God) will tell.
18W Fast Charger
Rumour has it the 18W charger is the one Apple’s leaving the 5W USB adaptor for (Adele anyone?). They also seem to be ditching the USB-A cable in favour of the USB-C to lighting cable. Pretty neat, right? Let’s pray to the Gods this report circulated by Japanese Blog Mac Otakara is accurate. Because if that happens, Apple lovers will be able to charge their iPhone from 1% to 79% in just under an hour.
So, there you have it, folks, all the major rumours swirling around the interwebs about the 2019 iPhones. Don’t hold me to them though. The Apple gods are unpredictable creatures, and who knows what bombshells they’ve got planned for us this year? Certainly not me. But hey, making predictions is half the fun of being an Apple fan.
